Description
If you are bilingual and are able to speak, read, and write English, you may be qualified for the certificate program in Healthcare Interpreting. The certificate trains bilingual and bicultural students to develop the awareness, knowledge and skills needed for effective language interpretation in health care settings. Practical skills are acquired through classroom activities, language coaches, and fieldwork experience in health care settings. You will learn medical terminology and use techniques for managing communication between patients, their families, and medical staff.
Interpreters are an important member of the healthcare team. Employment opportunities exist in numerous healthcare settings including hospital interpreter services, private vendors who contract with healthcare agencies, small-business entities, and self employment. Service locations may include face-to-face encounters, video conferencing, or language phone services with local or at-a-distance connection and contracts.
