Programs in Kinesiology and Athletics prepare students for employment as fitness instructors or specialists, as athletic coaches, or sports medicine related fields. Students completing a certificate as fitness instructor or specialist are prepared to take national certification exams needed for the health and fitness industry (offered at both American River College and Sacramento City College). The athletic coach certificate (offered at Sacramento City College) provides graduates with foundational knowledge necessary to enter the professional field of an athletic coach and other advanced career opportunities. Students interested in a sports medicine degree (offered at American River College) are prepared to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies in the areas of athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology, athletic injuries, and other sports related fields.
