There are many career opportunities in a variety of settings in which this general field trains — the prevention, discovery, control, and treatment of crimes, criminals, and criminality. The program is open to students who complete specific portions of study, complete the associate degree, or transfer to a four-year degree program. There is a demand for personnel as uniformed police patrol, investigation, criminal investigation, criminal identification, criminalistics and corrections. Employment in these areas are found at the local, state, and federal levels, and in private industry.
